Apps specifically for the iPad are now available in the app store. For those with US accounts you can buy and/or download for free right now.

So I grabbed some free apps just to see what happens.

In the apps section of iTunes the apps show up divided into sections showing if the app is compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or all three.

I now await for my iPad so I can actually use these apps.

Curiously, iPad apps do show up on the au store (http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/rowmote-pro-remote-control/id315316036?mt=8), they're just not featured anywhere. It seems if the developer has set the app to be available in the au store then it can be found now.

Yes, for the record it's perfectly fine to buy iPad apps from the Australian Store, they're just not "featured" on the home page.

By default, devs have apps in every store. Developers have to willingly limit the stores their app is available in.

Was able to buy our new app (http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/phases-hd/id364748079?mt=8) from the Aus store too. Woo!

It's very tempting to go nuts buying apps I can't use. :S

...just need an iPad now.

I remember the night before the iPhone 3G came out vividly. The App Store went live for the first time, and I went crazy. When I went to bed that night, I looked in iTunes and thought: "Wow, 20 apps already. Thats crazy!". Today I have 333 iPhone apps and I already have 20 iPad apps. And its still another three weeks before I have an iPad of my own...

Given pre-purchasing of apps like that, does anyone think it might be time for Apple to replace the widgets functionality on the Mac with something that just handles iPhone/iPad apps. There's much more activity in that space anyhow whereas I'm not sure there's a lot of active work on developing widgets.

Not sure if the SDK kit runs all apps or just ones under development, but assumedly it would be easy for Apple to modify that and roll out something that means we can use apps we bought in some kind of small screen mode on the Mac itself?
