I've only recently changed from MS to Mac and still finding my feet. With MS, when I cut&paste info from a web site into Word, I would first paste&cut it via NotePad in order to clean it up - a quick and easy technique. But with Mac, what is the equivalent of NotePad as a dumb text editor? So far, it seems to me that TextEdit is similar to WordPad

Try Edit > Paste and Match Style

In the Preferences, set the Format to Plain Text.

Rich Text is for losers.

Don't forget that Word has paste special > unformatted text. Saves a trip to Notepad or Text Edit :)

Yeah I love Paste & Match Style, couldn't live with out it, it takes all the hassle out of formatting a document especially when working on a 2000 word document with lots of quick lines grabbed from other documents or the net

TextWrangler (http://www.barebones.com/products/TextWrangler/) isn't dumb, but it is free - the smaller sibling to BBEdit.
