I currently have panther installed on my G3 imac. I heard that it is faster than tiger but i want to know what happens when i install tiger. Does it keep my existing data? and is it recommended.

I have/did have OS 10.3.9 running on it fine.
Imac G3 400mhz DVD, 256ram 40gb hdd.
Just wanted to know what it would do the my existing files. It is a new OS rather than an upgrade..i think.

You can archive and install it will put the new bits over the old but if your real scared back up your data and then move it back when your done.

ok this is what happens...
boot from the OSX dvd and go to disc utility. select repair permissions...done...permissions are restored and so is access to hdd:)
