View Full Version : Time Machine Stopping

11th March 2010, 01:10 PM
Hi, I am pretty new to MAC and love it!. i have a problem with Time Machine that i have been unable to solve even after spending many hours on the phone to Apple.
Basically the backup stops after about 17~20GB of data without explanation.
I have already taken these steps
Tried different USB Ports
Bought a new ext USB caddy
Bough a New hard drive
turned off all powersaving
tried exluding apps and other data
Reloaded the system (Erase & Install)

I am running Snow leopard and have updated to the latest version so the software is all up to date.

The backup starts and states backing up 860GB of data etc and then just stops without explanation when i monitor the System Log in console, it just indicated that Backup is complete.
Of course when i enter time machine none of my User data has been backed up.

Any help would be greatly apprciated

Some HDDs contain hidden files that for some reason give TM grief. Just reformatting the drive may not be enough. Try creating multiple partitions (say a dozen) then do it again with just one partition. I had similar issues with a Lacie drive a couple of years ago.

That sounds like a pain in the hole.
I no longer use Time Machine, after testing it for around 6 months when it first came out.

Try switching User Accounts, as shown here in detail (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/18/67836-basic-fully-visual-tutorials-switch-user-account.html), and / or download SuperDuper! (http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html)

Many of SuperDuper's basic functions are free.
