So some of you may be aware of decryption's pilgrimage to the US to buy iPads for people who order them, then courier them out. I am mighty tempted to do this, but if I do order one, what is the deal with warranty? If it breaks and the iPad is available in Australia, will the Genius Bar replace it? What is the normal system for iPods and iPhones in the same situation?

iPods, iPhones and desktop Macs have warranty that is only valid in the country that it was purchased in. I'd imagine it'd be the same for the iPad.

So this (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=701292&r=10964128#r10964128+) is incorrect? If I were to buy AppleCare (presuming it becomes available), does that "make the warranty international"?

That is news to me....

Apple have an international warranty? That's what I thought...

If purchased at an Apple Store (as I think Anthony will be doing) overseas then you should have no problems at all. I asked at a store in Los Angeles a few years ago and the specialist there said I could return/exchange it overseas with warranty applying as long as I had a receipt.

This may have changed, but as far as I know you'll be fine.

I guess it depends on if apple decide to treat the iPad as a iPhone or iPod from a warranty perspective.

I have had my iPod touch's headphones replaced overseas on a standard iPod warranty.

Yep - the iPods have overseas warranties, the iPhones do not. I'm going to guess that 3G iPads will be local-only, and wi-fi iPads will be similar to an iPod touch.
