Apparantly Apple PR reps have already been in touch with media to say its still due "late march"

I think the media have run out of speculative stories on the iPad so any news is some news now!

Analysts are a funny bunch, aren't they.

But you know, I can see apple being OK with reduced production because it means their device will be in short supply and stories of 'iPad sold out' will make the public aware of its awesomeness. :)

Small quantity available on the promised date... triumphant Apple Store Campers being mugged on their way home for them...

The part I thought was the tough bit was the "will likely limit the launch region to the U.S. and the number of units available to roughly 300,000 in the month of March".

Leaves us Aussies out in the cold until April when the scuzzy telcos will be getting their mitts on them.

I'd like to think Apple will stick to their word when the Aus website says available late March.

If I don't get an iPad on the 28/28th of March, I'm gonna close down MacTalk until I get one.

All this could also be a very clever ploy to generate buyer anxiousness..... and try to have as many people as possible lining up on launch day .... something Apple have been known to participate in in the past.

It's certainly been a different style of launch for Apple. The hysteria that built up towards the launch date was like shark infested custard... not believable, but scary nonetheless. Industry pundits savaging the device before anyone had seen one... and what seemed to me a series of carefully placed leaks designed to whip everyone into a fever of anticipation.

The Mission:Repair "leak" certainly had me incredulous. If real... I mean, the whimsical and benevolent leader at Apple has a reputation for, um, coming down hard on that sort of stuff. Made me wonder if they've ditched research focus groups, and they're instead monitoring web traffic and feedback as they shape towards putting the thing in cardboard.

Apple have said so little about this product. The Signal-to-noise ratio has unusual clarity though.

Anyway, I'll queue for this one. I think iPad is going to mark a pivotal point when we look back. Watch your back if you're ahead of me at Chermside.

Fitting the camera in?

Yep, sorry.

iPad Camera rumor becoming a reality? We think so. Mission:Repair Blog (http://blog.missionrepair.com/2010/02/01/ipad-camera-rumor-becoming-a-reality-we-think-so/)

I think I'm under NDA Vis--vis SDK but solely looking at this I must wonder if the camera is planned for inclusion (and if it's "only" say 8 megapixel the same pundits will bitch about it).

Sitting your iPad in the dock could be a really pleasant videoconferencing experience.
But... Camera. Videoconferencing. 3G. That combination is not going to be an experience that nouveau users are going to be ecstatic about. I wonder if there's an internal dialogue going on to that effect.

Has anyone yet looked at that and thought that the camera housing looks to be set in landscape and not portrait.

It's set in the short side so it could be used in a dock standing up...
