Hi,

I have a new iMac 27" A couple of weeks old, and it is hanging badly on startup. When you first turn it on, it stays on the grey screen for a couple of minutes, then once the little wheel starts animating it boots fairly quickly (as per normal). It has pretty much happened since first purchasing it.

I have also tried booting with nothing but a power cable connected, and it makes no difference.

Is there any way I can check what is going on, without the re-install / re-format solution, as it is my work machine, I simply don't have the time for to do that and setup everything and copy my data across.

Thanks for your help.
Tom

Cancel that, problem fixed. Followed these steps and BAM, boots like a champion!

- Shutdown
- Remove Battery(if you have one) and disconnect power
- Hold down the power button for > 7 seconds
- Reconnect power
- Immediately after turning the power on, hold down the Apple, Option, P and R keys, until the second chime sounds.
- Let it finish booting.
