Hi

How much would the difference in performance be between ibook G3/800 and G4/800 ? They seem to be selling at similar prices at ebay.

Keep in mind the G4 version also include a faster memory, better graphics, and ability to host an Airport Extreme Card.

Apart from G4 chips being faster than G3s, G4 also includes a slot-loading optical drive, and can run G4 only programs like GarageBand (amongst others). The G3 model also had logic board problems.

Yes, the G4 has altivec which is going to make a big difference when it comes to playing divx movies and DVDs etc.

Also the G3 iBooks are a timebomb when it comes to reliability. Avoid them.

hehe. If you are asking me.

I'll never buy another white Apple Mac again. I'll never buy a mac from an Australian reseller again.

The reason is in my sig.

Good luck with the iBook's

Yes, recently bought a G4/400/512 MB RAM from a member here and there is an obvious increase in speed when compared to my old G3/350/256 MB RAM. It is not solely caused by a 50MHz enhancement but I guess the 256 MB more RAM also plays an important part .

The G3 iBook's are hundreds of dollars overpriced compared to the G4 iBooks
