View Full Version : Alu Macbooks getting bent out of shape

15th February 2010, 06:40 PM
Hi there, I'm the proud owner of a 2008 Unibody MacBook, which recently fell about 2 feet onto a hard floor. Because aluminium is such a soft metal, it actually bent slightly, so that the trap door holding the battery in place no longer lines up with the body properly. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I suppose in some ways it's better to deal with than a great big crack, but in other ways it seems to be a flaw. I suppose that at least nothing actually broke, so I can still use it, but still...

Ummmm, it's bent because it's a "soft metal???"

Two feet onto a hard floor, your lucky it's working at all.

Sorry, I must have misunderstood. Didn't you say your Macbook is still working?

Count yourself lucky you don't have a polycarbonate, plastic, or magnesium alloy laptop. You'd come out far worse than having an aluminium mac.

This thread calls for one of two pictures... I'll let you choose between them yourselves:

and of course.... this problem would never have happened if Apple had got off their lazy backsides and provided us with...

Look at it this way Boxdog, I once dropped an IBM laptop causing ugly cracks which I ended up using superglue to fix. At least your laptop looks kind of beautiful still.

And I guarantee you'll never drop one again.

Drop it again on the other side, should correct it.
