View Full Version : OS update corrupts

I'm on wireless broadband in a marginal signal area. Most of the time things run OK, but downloading >500Mb OS update resulted in a package that would not open. Being about as smart as your average chook, I've tried a couple more times at different times of the day (I did say this is a marginal signal), which blew my bandwidth allocation out of the water <sigh> but still didn't produce a usable update.

Are updates available anywhere in smaller chunks? Or is there a way to identify where a download wobbled and start again from the middle? Or something?

The problem isn't unique to OS updates of course. It's just that they're by far the biggest I've had to deal with, and probably the most important.

Thanks,

Ghoti

On a good day, with the wind blowing in the right direction, some kind soul might mail you a CD with the combined update on it.

As it happens, I have the 10.6.2 combined update on my server. The URL is:

http://macdave.com/tmp/MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.2.dmg

I suggest if you want to grab it, do the following in Terminal:

curl -O -C - http://macdave.com/tmp/MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.2.dmg

That will download the update to your home directory. If you need to resume, simply repeat the command. Just keep pecking away until you have it all. Curl will let you know when it's done.

The md5 = b7de521f7514fa410dd4aa279600f9ca

If you wish to verify the d/l is complete and correct.

Thanks very much Dave.

I'm going to be off the air altogether for a few hours so I'll start this when I can "keep pecking away" if it fails. I'll let you know how it goes.
