It seems like the 2nd Superdrive has died. It is doing the same as the one that was replaced under warranty 18 months ago. Stuff replacing it, can anyone recommend an external DVD burner that runs on FireWire or eSata?

Thanks.

There are many out there, personally I'd recommend a firewire one from somewhere like Epowermac (http://www.epowermac.com.au/shop/pc/External-DVD-Burners-c459.htm). I got a LaCie desktop one back when they only went up to 20x.

If you don't need the burner to be portable I'd recommend just buying an enclosure with firewire as well as USB plugs then just buy a cheap desktop drive for $30-$50. If the drive fails again, you then just need to but a new drive and change it in the enclosure.

I bought a lacie unit many years ago (a firewire unit) and it is awesome. Bought it as my iBook at the time didn't have a superdrive. It is bus powered, not much bigger than a DVD and really quick and quiet. Ultra reliable too. Might be more expensive, but it is a good unit.
