View Full Version : Cases/Carrying Your iPad

How do you intend to encase and carry yours? I don't like cases that attach to the unit. I'm thinking of a sleeve. Does anyone remember the sleeve that came with the original Newton? It was a simple sleeve with a hard plate to protect the screen. Something like that would be good.

My ultimate would be a sling-like backpack with a padded pouch. You wear it on your back, then drag it over your shoulder, open a zip in the side and pull out the iPad. I like quick-draw arrangements.

If that doesn't eventuate, a simple sleeve on a strap would do, but it would be hard to escape "man bag" comparisons. I want a minimal carrier, not a purse.

What do you all think?

I'm liking the official apple sleeve, which doubles as a stand, etc.

Yeah me too, official Apple one and then perhaps a neoprene case or even a funky sewn one.

Me too. I like the colour and the minimalist look.

I'm just wondering if I can get my GF to knit me an iPad Sock like the ol' iPod Socks ;)

In all seriousness - I'll have it in my laptop bag and when I need it I'll pull use it. What's the point in covering it up!?

I'll be looking for ether protective film or a clear protective case. Maybe something like this (http://store.apple.com/au/product/TW253VC/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0NA&mco=MTEyNzI2MDg) but with out the mirror finish

Probably the official Apple one, though I'd like to see one with an elastic strap on the back so I could hold it semi-upright without having to actually grasp the edges.

If my history with other tech products is anything to go by, I'll use it naked.

The Apple case might be tempting because it doubles as a stand, but I find cases add extra bulk and weight, neither of which I like for my gadgets.

I'll probably modify my old leather organiser, and use it like the case I had for my 2100 Newton. The less it screams "I have an iPad come knock it off" the better for me :-)

I think the main consideration for me is to make myself less of a target for mugging. So I won't carry it naked while walking around. I prefer to use a non-apple casing fir the same reason.

I was just thinking of using a portfolio

agree. I use all my gear naked, don't like cases, skins, or other bulky things... I didn't pay an absolute fortune on Apple gear to not fully appreciate the aesthetics.

I HATE cases too, but the iPad case is more functional than simple protection, so I might consider it.

Fantastic idea. I imagine when it takes off in Hospitals or as POS in Restaurants etc, something like this would be a real usability enhancement.

Now to just decide which model to actually buy.....

I wonder how much the Vaja cases will be :)

Given the price of the iPhone ones im guessing 1/3 the price of the iPad

Vaja will be nice, but the think leather will add considerable bulk and weight to the thing I'd imagine.

I must admit... I'm jones'ing to buy this puppy now. Wish they had them at the Apple store now.

I'm going to have it painted gold and carry it using a Lanyard!

Ultimate bling for the win!

I read about a clothing company which produced a coat specifically for people who have to carry iPad around. It has a pocket designed for iPad, plus some other pockets for accessories. I might just get one of that.

I was planning on using a plastic shopping bag (the Aldi ones are nice and durable), but after reading this thread, it seems there are much nicer options out there. Thanks guys! (I might wait to see what foof (http://foofshop.com/) does)

I think I will get one of the iLuv fabric cases if I need to take my iPad out, otherwise naked at home

I imagine if it ever leaves the house it will be just thrown in my backpack.

I'm not getting one right away (more a $ issue than issues with the product itself), but if I were too I'd be keeping an eye on what Beyza Cases ("http://www.beyzacases.com/) come up with.

I can't stand covering up an awesome looking device with a $5 piece of plastic.
But something to cover it in my bag would be good.

+1 except i dont have a bag yet.

im all for the carry bag, but for me cases just get in the way. im pretty good with my devices - never get dropped etc so the ipad can survive in its birthday suite.

those booq ones look good. the missus has recommended one of those man bag things. i duuuunnnnnoooooo.....
