I use Virgin Mobile Broadband. When I first bought my modem, it came with the Virgin Broadband connection software, which has a particularly ugly icon. It's the same with all the other telcos too. They design software for Mac then decide to create a tiny 48x48 icon, which is nowhere near Snow Leopard's default 512x512 icons. As an example, here's Virgin's current icon (http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/3912/virginoriginal.png), in 512x512 state. Ugh.

I decided to create a replacement icon a few months ago, but I wasn't completely happy with it, so I've redone it - and I thought I may aswell share it with MacTalk too. This is a 512x512 Virgin Mobile Broadband icon. It blends in great with the Flurry system icons designed by The Icon Factory too. Click here (http://uploadrobots.com/RDBZt1) to download it in .icns format if you want to use it yourself.

I'll probably post it on my blog sometime later on, but please do let me know what you think of it. If requested, I'll happily do the same sort of thing for other telcos too, but that's it for now.

Looks great, :)

How do you actually change the default icon?

Thanks! It's a little bit old, but Apple has a guide to doing that here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2493).
