hi guys,

am thinking of switching to Mac...the new iMacs just look sensational and all reviews i've read so far say this is great value for money.

question is whether i should pay more and get the quad core i5 processor? my use would be broken down between photoshop / tv&movies / downloading / surfing...not much gaming.

the i5 runs at 2.66 compared to 3.06 of C2D so won't it be better to get latter??

also is there a big difference between the Radeon 4670 and 4850 cards?
again use will be predominantly tv / movies / web-surfing

thanks

Since the iMacs can't be upgraded (bar RAM and HD), go the best you can get - which is by far the i5 model (which appears slower, but is considerably faster on the uptake than the older Core2Duo line).

The Radeon 4670 is also a decidedly more mid-range graphics card over the (much more powerful) 4850.

The i5 is streets ahead in performance, and will be more "future proof" as applications are released to take advantage of multiple cores.

In a Speedmark test, MacWorld got the following results:

27" iMac 3.06GHz C2D - 162
27" iMac 2.66GHz i5 - 209

That's 29% faster by my maths, and it's based on actual program usage, rather than some random floating-point calculations.
