Boy, this is probably in the wrong section, but I'm still only just getting familiar with the board.

I've got a question/problem regarding Real Player. I'm running system 9.2.2 on a G3. What I need to do is download a number of Real Player clips from the Hockey Night in Canada (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hnic/coach.html) site and somehow convert them to a format that I can keep permanently on my hard drive. If nothing else, what I really need is the audio.

Any suggestions on how to do this?

real media works by getting you to download a file with a link in it. The file type is associated with realplayer so when it downloads - realplayer automatically opens it and then starts playing the link.

All you need to do is get that file and open it with textedit (or any text editor) and find the url, then use a download manager to get the original video file.

But the problem i found when trying to download from the link you've pasted is the protocol. usually, you could download things like this from http or ftp - but the protocol that site are using (as do many other real media sites) is rtsp:// Which iirc is uncompatible with most download managers.

So you can try the method i've showed you for other sites - but not with the site you linked. Sorry. :/

Thanks Disko. There may still be hope.

Somone gave me this handy link: http://bodytag.org/nav.php?u=link/

Not sure if that application will work for rtsp://.

But I can't get Simple Text to open the Real Player files. Is there some special method other than drag & drop?

Download BBEdit Lite. It will open any file as if it were a text file.
