Woooo! Thanks MrX.

Hmm to go for the 2.53Ghz Mac Mini or the 21.5" 3.06Ghz iMac.......

The "21.5" screen size is very intriguing.

Also interesting move with a 1TB option in the Mac Mini with no optical drive...

Do I read that right as a Mac Mini with a 1TB HDD? Not possible, surely? Or is it?

Yeah that is right, no optical drive though. More than likely it will have 2 500GB HDDs. Nice option as it had been done with an aftermarket kit before now.

Since there is no 2.5" 1TB Drive. I would say "NO ODD" stands for no optical disk drive which means it must have 2x500GB.

What is 'K84 BEST BTR'? I'm terrible at decoding this stuff.

To me it says 'best bitter' but I don't think Apple make beer yet.

Cheers for the info

Will be interesting to see if the currency fluctuation back towards parity will lead to better AUD prices again, after the horrible adjustment we got this time last year.

Yeah - very hopeful of a price adjustment in lieu of almost USD parity.

Hopefully there's some new product design too - after so many years of the same (good - don't get me wrong) designs and colors I'm a little bored.

If these do come out as expected soon, I'll probably still wait a while to see if any issues crop up, so thanks in advance to those less prudent than me! :) I do look forward to hearing of how the new minis in particular stack up.

If there are indeed new minis.

Did they ditch the 24inch or ditch the 20inch?

These part numbers were put on engadget way after they came here. I am impressed- Mr Speed Racers friend.

I like the sound of the new heavy-duty mini.... but wouldn't an optical drive still be handy for the lounge room to throw in the odd DVD? I'd find it hard to not still want that. Not for every day but just occassionally, without having to throw discs into another Mac elsewhere.

yea.. Mini without Optical sounds incomplete... everybody neeeds to use it once in a while

grfxninja
21st October 2009, 01:23 AM
I have an AppleTV in the loungeroom for my media currently - haven't used a DVD for about 18 months (plus if need be, the Xbox can play them just fine)
Haven't used the DVD drive in my MBP for at least 8-10 months
My wife uses the DVD Drive in her iMac for doing encodes of DVD's to AppleTV or for occasionally watching Charmed in the bedroom.
Mini without optical drive suits me just fine

The Vesa mount mentioned in the first post is for the 27".

27-inch model can be attached to a wall mount, articulating arm, or other VESA-compliant mounting solution using the optional VESA Mount Adapter Kit

Only thing I'm dreading are the prices once the AU store comes up....

I bought a wireless bluetooth apple keyboard and a logitech vx nano mouse recently. It appears the only difference is they have cut down one battery on the keyboard, so I can live with that. But that magic mouse, wow. Will buy it immediately. Looks like it works really well, nothing to plug in and blends in with the other apple gear nicely.

Interesting look. Not sure if I like it yet.

Think I might go the $2199 27" C2D iMac. Don't really need the processing power of the i5 or i7 although it would be nice. And I don't want to wait til November.

White MacBook has been up-specced also.

Unibody Polycarbonate enclosure. 2.26 processor. 250GB HDD. 7 Hour battery. Looks so much better too. And for $1299.

Looks like the wired Mighty Mouse has seen a quick rebranding...

I assume this is the result of the copyright claim... or that some people may think Mighty sounds better than Magic.

Good to see the 27" iMac has Mini DisplayPort INPUT as well as output.

Apple - iMac - Features of Apple?s all-in-one desktop computer. (http://www.apple.com/imac/features.html)

Mini DisplayPort.

The Mini DisplayPort lets you connect an external display, including the Apple LED Cinema Display, to your iMac. On the 27-inch iMac, the same port offers input, too. So you can connect any external source that has DisplayPort output including a MacBook or MacBook Pro and use your iMac as a display.

At last a decent change to the specs, especially the CPUs and screens. Hopefully the tri-colour 20" screens are gone forever. And I could actually use the quad core.

Take a look at the U.S. Apple Store prices. Given near parity of the A$, that's a $400 premium to buy the 27" quad in Australia. Ouch.

Anybody know if there's a way to get a Blu-ray (at least reader) in there? Maybe the next rev (with Light Peak, yum).

Have to wait to see these in the flesh. of course (especially the screens, man that 20" was a deal breaker).

Anybody know what the slot below the optical drive does?

And they should have called it the Slick Mouse...

edit: One FireWire port? That's a deal breaker. I need 3. Swapping plugs with 2 is bad enough, but 1 FireWire?? Tough luck if you do anything that can actually use the quad core. Apple, Apple, Apple. I spent a lot of time warning people that FireWire was on its way out on iMacs on U.S. fora. Sadly I was right.

New mac mini for me.

Is it worth paying the extra $210 to up the processor from 2.53 GHz to 2.66GHz?

Would DSE, JBHIFI, etc have the new macs in this morning?
