Samsung Mini DV Camcorder & iMovie 09

Just brought a Samsung Mini DV digital video camcorder and can't get it to work with iMovie 09.

The camcorder is model no. VP-D381(i)

I am running Snow Leopard

iMovie recognises that a camera is present because the import window pops up. It rewinds the tape in the camcorder and then the tape starts playing back on the camcorder but not in the pop up import window. iMovie then crashes after 60 seconds or so.

I am using a mini dv to firewire 800 connection cord.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated on what i can do to get this to work.

Just thought i would re post on this subject to let everyone know i finally solved the issue.

What you need to do is press play on the camcorder BEFORE connecting the firewire cable and pressing import in iMovie09. What I will have to do is just record roughly 30 seconds of nothing on the beginning of each new tape so that I have time to get the import going and therefore don't miss out on importing anything important.
