Hi all

I have a major problem with my Inbox in Entourage. overnight - and seemingly for no reason at all...when i click on a new mail that appears in the INBOX...I can read it in the preview pane window......but it then vanishes. It reamin in the preview pane but as soon as I click away - it disappears altogether! it;s not moved to any sub folder at all - it is nowehre at all!

mail that is sitting in the inbox that I got prior to this morning - is not affected. i can click on that and it stays unaffected - it simply applies to new mail only. all sub folders are also ok.

I have set up a sub folder called INBOX 2 and diverted all incoming mail to that - plus selcted leaving a copy on the servers just incase and that's all ok.

But that is not a permanent solution so does anyone have any suggestions as to

a. what the problem might be.

and

b. how can I fix it?

thanks for any help offered!

hi rebecca

a. do you know how big your entourage database is? and have you updated your office to the latest version?

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php...ourage+database (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=38796&highlight=entourage+database)

b. if the db is above 4Gb, then you might need to create a new identity. otherwise you may need to rebuild the database if it's been corrupted in some way?

hope that helps!

I have done the rebuild and it still didn't work...initially!

for some reason, when I came back from my meeting an hour later - and tested the system, it's now working fine! go figure???

thanks for the advice - i appreciate your help.

I tend to every month do a standard rebuild (hold down the option key when starting Entourage to bring up the dialogue), which will remove all the old deleted messages. This cuts down the database size significantly (specially if you are like me, on many lists and delete a huge amount of stuff).

Every few months or a year I quit Entourage, duplicate the folder with my standard identity and give the old one a name that shows when I stopped using it. Then I start Entourage with the new identity, and create a filter that deletes all mail over 3 months old (with the exception of my program registration emails). I then empty deleted items and do a database rebuild.

As a result, I've had almost no trouble with corruption.
