A question for the technically minded users. I am using Jaguar (X.2.8) on a G4 Tower and have taken notice of an article from LAFCPUG (Los Angeles User Group) written by Charles Roberts <http://www.lafcug.org/care_feeding_jag.html> who advises using Repair Disk Permissions to keep the system in tip top order.

This advice includes running permissions and repeat running until the initial report ends in 'new permissions are 33261'.

This has worked well until the last month or so and whilst I am having no problems with Jaguar, no matter how many times Repair Disk Permissions are run the following messages are displayed:-

'Permissions differ on ./usr/share/man/man1/less1/ should be -rw-r--r--r they are -r-r--r--r. Permissions have been corrected.' This is then followed by:-

'Permissions differ on./usr/share/man/man1/more1/ should be -r-r--r--r they are -rw-r--r--r. Permissions have been corrected.'

Is this normal or is there some mix up within Jaguar can anyone please advise me?

Harry

See my tip here (http://forums.appletalk.com.au/index.php?showtopic=79&view=findpost&p=6989) in the Mac OS X tips topic about setting up a cron job that does a weekly permissions repair. It requires being comfortable with the terminal.

By the way, the things mentioned that still come up are just some manual pages for a couple of terminal commands, nothing serious.

Thanks Currawong.

Did not think much was wrong as system operates perfectly - just curiosity I guess and we know what that did to the moggie!
