I could no longer get coverage where I live so I have switched from Optus to Telstra

1. Registered new account with Telstra
2. Cancelled Optus ...out of contract
3. Received new Telstra SIM and activated it
4. Booted up, got ITunes error, this SIM wont work
5. Rang Telstra, yes your account is now with us but your phone is still locked to Optus
6. Rang Optus unlocked phone quoting IMEI number
7. Phone still wont connect

Any thoughts on step 8

Try plugging into iTunes.

Pretty sure that the unlock goes through that way.

It can take several days for the unlock to go through. If you've received the SMS from Optus and it still isn't unlocked you may need to restore your iPhone (backup first, obviously).

thanks for the advice

i have tried taking the new telstra SIM in and out (10 times!)
and plug it into Itunes but everytime it is :-(

Of course Optus said it would be unlocked in an hour but hey

It took 2 hours but this time when I connected it unlocked and was up and on the air in 20 secs

Did Optus charge you to unlock the phone?
