Hi everyone,

When I logged into my Twitter Account today, I got a message saying that my Twitter Account has been suspended due to “strange” activity. I have only posted 80 messages since I got an account about 4 months ago and am only following about 24 people.

Someone has obviously somehow hacked into my account because the last message sent was "Hey evry1, peep high-profits.org (http://high-profits.org) ! ez way to make some extra cash!".

I DID NOT send this message out.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I have sent a message to Twitter, but after past dealings with them, I'm not holding out for a quick solution. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is the only option to start a new account? But how will I stop people hacking into it in the future?

TIA,

ausdan

Yeah, there's been quite a few accounts suspended for odd reasons. I'm sure that contacting Twitter and explaining the situation will get it re-enabled. Courtney Gibson from the ABC was suspended a few days back, but I've seen her tweeting again last night. You won't have to start a new account.

You're not alone being hacked either. Three or four people I follow have been updating oddly this week. Stupid spammers. I can only recommend choosing a stronger password.

Twitter just had a DOS attack (http://status.twitter.com/post/157191978/ongoing-denial-of-service-attack) so it might be related to that.

If you sent me spam, I would have "blocked" you.

Users with a high level of blocks gets suspended for suspicious activity.

Interesting. A couple of days ago, our twitter account (@thesecretlab (http://twitter.com/thesecretlab)) received a direct message: "yo. retweet this!!! http://high-profits.org Make $ Online!"

I ignored it at the time, but looking at the guy's account he claims his account was hijacked and was used to spam. I wonder what's going on.

Clearly people's accounts are being highjacked and used to spam. It's not a new thing, it's been happening for ages. The high-profits highjackings just happen to be high this week.

You just have to change your password if it happens to you.

Twitter has fixed my problem. They re-instated my account and I have changed my password. YEHAA, I'm connected again!!!

I'm having a similar problem. What e-mail address did yu use to contact them? I can only find one for terms of service violations.
