I guess it was always inevitable given Google's recent movements (ie. Android & Chrome OS), but I saw this posted around on Twitter earlier tonight - and there's now official confirmation:

Dr. Eric Schmidt Resigns from Apple’s Board of Directors (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2009/08/03bod.html)

Still happens to raise quite a few interesting questions regardless…

Hmmm.
So what does this mean, vis a vis Google Voice? Apple and Google *really* aren't as close as they were, and that's unfortunate (but inevitable).

Yep. Was just a mater of time. I doubt much will change from both parties.

FSJ announced this a month ago (http://fakesteve.blogspot.com/2009/07/dear-eric-youre-dead-to-me.html) :)

At this stage, I think I have to agree - I don't think we'll see much happen immediately because of this. Instead, if something is going to happen, it's going to be more to do with the FCC now investigating Apple/AT&T/Google for all of this now.

I'm surprised that it's happened now (unless there have been talks internally for sometime), as I'd have expecting the ball to start rolling on this at least when ChromeOS was announced (which would have been right when FSJ predicted it IIRC).

I hope we're not heading into interesting times with all of this ;)
