Cool.

You should rename the Hard drive - personalise it a little. :)

Excellent! Soon, I am going to be getting a 15inch PowerBook as well. I will have the DVD-RW drive with 512 ram at first, then will upgrade to 1GB. :)

Does changing the HD name on the desktop effect the entire system as if it would on Windows PCs?

I bought my first ever Mac as well this week!
I'm now the very proud owner of a 17" 1.5 GHz Powerbook (with 1GB RAM)

Was going to buy a fully loaded one... but as I was in the shop - a truck pulled up with a 100 new machines! So I just couldn't walk away with out one!

WOW!
Great machine!
Great OS!
I think I'm a Mac snob instantly!!!!
Why didn't I listen to my friends years ago???

My powerbook is going pretty well too.. I got some dvd-r disks on the weekend and burnt a copy of our wedding dvd we got from our wedding, and it worked perfectly. Sure its not super quick, but it has some advantages of being able to burn 4gb of data onto a disk anywhere.

I'll do some screen captures of my desktop sooner or later. I am slowly adding applications, however i have this urge to reinstall it and start again. Although not decided if I will do that just yet.

Meanwhile I have plans to share out more data space on my PC to the powerbook ;)

Renaming the HDD is great...it doesn't stuff up the rest of the OS.

I call mine whatever the Icon tells me to.

Just a think to note 15' versus 17'. The 15' has 2 X 256MB memory sticks where the 17' has 1 X 512MB memory stick. With only 2 slots, makes the 17' easier (cheaper) to upgrade RAM on, and if you are buying apple genuine RAM, makes the difference in price between the 15' and 17' negligible if you are starting out with 1Gig RAM.

Yeah thats a good point. However, I found that I didnt want the bigger 17"... the 15" is perfect for my needs. And I got the single 1GB stick of ram, so I still have a free slot if I want to add another Gig at a later date. :) Oh and heres my screenie... I have office 2004 (dad beta tested it) and its pretty awesome! im still learning it though.

Thanks mate! yeah I like that pic. I have also set up another user purely for "gaming." I have attached a screenie of that too.

http://www.theapplecollection.com/ has some great apple themed desktops.

http://www.konfabulator.com/ has a range of widgets, and was referred to me by other apple talk users here (http://forums.appletalk.com.au/index.php?showtopic=934). It also has a temperature monitor built into it. :)

Wow, you guys are lucky! I have to use a crummy Windows machine... :( (the screenshot, believe it or not is running XP)

And, yes, I have now swapped to iTunes, and i'm not using WMP (as in the screenshot) :D

Just a few more paychecks till I join the Mac Club and blow this Windows Sucker Life forever!

Don't worry, i used Windohze for a year as my main OS until i bit the bullet and went to Linux. Still got the reliable ol' iMac 333, but unfortunately due to space constraints she can't come to uni with me as well as the PC. :(
