TUAW (http://i.tuaw.com/?date=2009/07/14&slug=ipcc-tethering-trick-no-longer-works-in-iphone-os-3-1-beta-2&a=show-post&commentspage=) reports that the AT&T IPCC hack, where the carrier file was modified to allow iPhone tethering sans official AT&T sanction no longer works. Bummer, given AT&T still hasnít announced anything about legitimate tethering support or pricing.

Wonder if a new way will be found.
Safe to assume this will screw those using the
hack on Optus too.

And this affects the .mobileconfig files too, if they're unsigned. If all this is true, we'll be forced to jailbreak. :(

Looks like I will be on 3.0 for a while as im not going to pay Optus fees for tethering for data I already pay for.

Anyone know if the new carrier settings affect the tethering hack?

I'm surprised anyone is left on Optus. Both Three and Voda offer free tethering and from what you read their networks are also better.

Those of us stuck on 24 month plans have little choice but to endure them until our contracts are up. I'll be jumping ship to Vodafone next year.

I am running 3.1 beta 2 and tethering still works with Telstra:D

Did you have to do anything, or did tethering just remain after the upgrade?

Just restored from the last backup and it was there.

Interesting. Suggests there's a back door still available to be exploited :)

Optus still has better coverage than voda

What does this have to do with the IPCC hack. Besides that, expansive coverage is useless if you can't maintain a data session on it.

It seems to be the same as earlier firmwares; if the version of the custom IPCC is higher than the one contained in the IPSW, the custom settings will remain in place.

So you could just set the IPCC version to something ridiculous - like Telstra 9999.

Meh.

Where there is a will there is a way.
