Hi crew,

I discovered this morning that when my ADSL router has a poo (drops it's ppp) my LAN stops working properly. I can't access Mac B with Mac A when the DSL modem gives up. (until I bounce the modem)

Devices:

8port 1Gig Netgear switch (un-managed) at core with these devices plugged in:

ADSL Modem (netcomm NB6)
QNAP TS-639 Pro NAS
Apple Airport Extreme (new)
Apple Airport Express (G, kids room)
Apple Airport Express (G, garage)

Devices connecting to wifi:
AppleTV (N network)
2x Macbook's (N or G network)
iMac (G network)
PS3's x 2 (G network)

Now, If the DSL goes down, I cannot ping the QNAP NAS with a Macbook on the wifi. I haven't tried it when the MAC is connected to the ethernet switch directly.

I'm starting to wonder if the problem is because I have the AIRPORT's all setup with the ADSL router as their 'gateway'. It's trying to route all traffic through the 'gateway' as configured (and the gateway is down?)

Maybe I can remove the gateway setting from the airports? (as all workstations have a gateway configured in their own sys prefs anyway?)

*thinking*

basically every device is listing the ADSL MODEM's lan IP as the gateway to route out...

Is your ADSL Modem also a router?
You may want your Netgear address set up as the gateway.
