View Full Version : iTunes Library has locked the ID Tags

This has happened in the last day or so.

I still have quite a few tracks in my iTunes Library that don't have ID Tags (mostly cos I have the 78Records collection, and it wasn't tagged). I've been slowly progressing through correcting/updating them.

I discovered this morning that I can't change any ID Tags in iTunes anymore.
If I click on a track, and do "Get Info", it shows me the current info, but all the fields are grayed out, and I can't edit them.

I haven't changed any permissions settings on my HDD.
I've tried running Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk Permissions, but it doesn't seem to do anything (it does show permissions that need repairing, but doesn't seem to do it).

I'm running OS X 10.5.7 and iTunes 8.2

HELP!!!

Ok, I've found that this has now also caused other problems.

I can no longer seem to be able to download podcasts.

It started doing this, and from what I could tell this was cos the permissions for the "iTunes Music" folder couldn't be written to via iTunes, so it couldn't create the "downloads" folder that it temporarily makes when downloading content from iTunes.

Really... Please help.

I'm no expert but have you tried deleting and re-adding the files to the library?

that's something like a library of 160gb. I don't have space to duplicate it on my HDD.

Also it seems to keep coming back as a permissions issue.

Try a File>Library>Consolidate library

Try a File>Library>Consolidate library

Just tried that. It didn't make a difference. :/

Login in your admin account. Go into folder Music>iTunes Music and secondary click that folder. Go into sharing and permissions. See if that needs changing

I think I has it sorted out now.

I copied the entire ~/Music to an external Fat32 HDD. This dropped all the permissions, cos Fat32 doesn't know what to do with them.
Deleted the contents of ~/Music.
Copied it all back from the external HDD to my MBP.
Opened iTunes.

For the moment this has fixed it :)
But I don't know what caused it in the first place. :/
