i have been thinking about changing the colour of the apple logo for almost 18 months now.

i finally got around to it.
before and after

One warning though..... the bezel is very finicky.
I bent quite a few of the tabs on it, and it doesnt sit properly anymore.

Removing the screen was easy. just undo all the screw around the side EXCEPT the ones in each top corner, and the two small ones next to the iSight.

this is what you should see...
i used a stanley knife to cut away the film that was covering it.
there was a bit of adhesive on it too, so i used the knife to pry it up a bit and pull it off.

try and push the logo out from the back of the case. BE CAREFUL, it does crack easily. (you may be able to tell in the pictures. thankfully it isn't visible once its all finished)

the most time consuming part was sanding the white paint of the back of the apple logo

i had some cellophane for it. 4 layers seemed to let through the right amount of light... but the 'dark blue' looked very purple...

so i used this instead...
yes... it's the cover of a folder

The sanded logo once back in its place.

All ready to put back together

put all the screws back in, clip the bezel back together... and its all done.

Nicely done!

Next steps: CCFLs and etchings into the lid! :D

Neither. I was just reminded of machines I've seen at lan parties, where there's more lighting in the case than computing hardware. You can't even look at the things without being blinded for a few minutes.

I like the blue.
Actually, it's very OS X Jaguar, Panther, Tiger-ish.
A grey would suit Leopard well.

What colour will the Snow Leopard Apple become?

so it does use the residual light from the screen.. or is there a seperate bulb out back, that matches the brightness levels

this would be better than the folder cover - iColours.ca - Customize Your Mac! (http://www.icolours.ca/)

same light as the backlight, changes the brightness when your screen auto dims/turned down.

Also, in the mornings, use the laptop with the back of the monitor facing the sun. You'll see a reverse Apple logo glowing under your screen.

I stuck a Rainbow iColour in mine before I sold it, ages ago - if the unibody Pro had a way to do it i'd do it again :P
