I've recently purchased a 12" ibook and need some advice about bags.

What type of laptop bags do you all have, and what would you recommend/warn against?

I suggest booq vyper. Lovely to look at and use.

I've got an STM wetsuit glove for my 12" PB. It's great because it fits like a uhhh.... glove.

I just visited rushfaster (http://www.rushfaster.com.au/) to have a look at shoulder bags. They've got a huge range. You should check it out.

I've no doubt there's new models about, but if you run a search for Bags or Laptop Bags using the site's Search tool you'll find several threads that have many contributions and opinions on Bags for Notebooks..

One worthy of mention, because it contains my first ever post on ATAU, has some 45 posts in it, and has been viewed over 2100 times! - see the thread here (http://forums.appletalk.com.au/index.php?showtopic=1068&hl=)

I stand by my original post in that thread (see it here (http://forums.appletalk.com.au/index.php?showtopic=1068&view=findpost&p=9373)), where I recommend the InCase range of Notebook bags - mine is travelling the world with me and is perfect for keeping your Apple Notebook protected inside backpacks and larger briefcase's, or for just keeping it in a light-weight case around town.. For a similar price, I think it is far better than an STM Glove case, as it offers a good solid shoulder strap and retractable handles and a pocket for carrying the charger/mouse/etc.

[spargo edit - just wanted to add that the bag i suggested above is at the strong but light-weight end of the scale, whereas the one below suggested by uncle herbert is probably the best at the other end, where you want to lug it around all day, everyday - i.e. Uni students/Hard-Core travellers such as pro photographers etc.. cheers..]

It really depends heavily on what you want from a laptop bag... do you want something to simply protect the laptop? or something with briefcase styling for carrying one-handed? or something to wear on your back for those longer days of carrying your brilliant machine around?

I'm at uni, so have to lug around my 14" ibook a LOT... I can't recommend the STM sports backpack highly enough!

http://www.standardtm.com.au/sports

It's big enough to carry a laptop, ipod, portable hard disk, cables PLUS a day's worth of books, pencils, pens etc. It will also take a 6x9" Graphics tablet if you need.

The laptop is held in a 'sprung' section, so if you drop your bag the laptop isn't the first thing to hit the ground! (A bonus for me, as I know I've had the bag drop off a hook when I wasn't expecting it to! No problems reported).

One of the great 'extra' features is the "ipod pocket"... a special section up the top of the bag that you can throw your iPod inside, and feed the earbud cable through a rubber 'grommet' (for want of a better term for a split bit of rubber).. keeps the iPod safe and dry... in fact the whole backpack is waterproof - a bonus if you're walking home and get caught in a shower!

They do a 12" model called a loop also if your precious about space & weight.

But as I said... this is only a good choice if you need a bag to carry around your laptop for extended periods.
