i'm wanting to convert my mac fetish to one nice looking and powerful little unit. i have a sharp dislike of the new unibody MBP's as the battery are built in and i want to be able to swap batteries on long trips.

so I'm looking for a 17" MBP of the now obsolete model of MBP with a decent CPU, GFX, and a 1600x1200 resolution.

my thoughts exactly, should be fun trying to find one. $2k is a good price...

Now does anyone have one they are thinking of getting rid of soon?

I buy all my Apple stuff from here . They are currently have a special on 17" Macbook Pro's. Applecare is also on sale to help move these units. You should get one for well under-budget (+ it is a brand new computer) Designwyse Australia (http://www.designwyse.com.au)

Double post.

You mean to say... because one Sales Person ignored you, they're all automatically "jerks" ?

That's a pretty broad generalization.

How old are you...?

nah your right, the two that were serving me were jerks, the others i cant say for, so yes out of frustration i generalised and i apologise mr Clockwork

*no sarcasm intended in all honesty! also i apologise about the double post - it was pure frustration today and a real waste of a day*

hmm, i think i'm going to have to get a loan.

that or get some one else here on Mactalk to do the inital purchase on my behalf through some sort of arrangement:)

I've deceided i want The MBP 17" 4GB with the Gecko ProSleeve 17 Hard Nylon Case($55) and Apple care 3yr($290) Grand total $3400 (assuming a $99 Freight charge). almost immediately after i get it and pay it off. i would rip out the 250GB and put in a 7200rpm 500GB drive.

EDIT: actual Quote is for AU$3,356.50

Try calling them and asking if you can pay a deposit on the machine. Organise your loan, pay the machine off then their courier it to you.

UPDATE: have got DesignWyse to hold one MBP for me.
however my bank rejected my loan in the first phase! i can afford it easily but by heck the lump sum is the problem.

I'll check out their low rate Credit Card options. (are there any banks which do student loans?) I'm with the stooges at Commonwealth

well I'm going to bat my head up against a wall and try to get my PowerBook repaired.

If your at university, the uni can offer student loans. My sister in law just started first year at Monash Uni. She borrowed $2000 from them to buy a Macbook. Might be something to look into.

with most people having credit cards, i think those are the best way. Just remember to pay of before the due date otherwise you will be paying thru your nose.

whats the spec you got? I might be interested in getting another one. Since I have just converted my uncle to mac too  and being that he is in Singapore, a further 10% will be nice :p
