Hey, I've got an early 08 MBP, and my charger hums when it's plugged in. It's a low and steady hum, it happens even when it's not plugged into the MBP, just the wall socket. When I unplug it, the hums continues for a couple of seconds with the pitch getting higher and higher and then stops.

so what's the diagnosis? is it safe to use the charger still?

Thanks, Luke.

I am a paranoid git when it comes to electricity (that's what happens when you've been electrocuted twice). So if I was you, I'd take it to the Apple store, and get them to replace it if it's in warranty. If not, buy a new one and toss the old one in the bin.

They're not meant to make a noise at all, Muzza. Time for it to be replaced, and very soon.

my early '08 MB Pro hums and whirs (still - even tho Apple Repairer replaced the S'Drive)
so I don't see why a MB Pro charger shouldn't!

(ha ha - feeble attempt at humor)

as suggested, return to Apple Store for a replacement as I now see you've already decided to
