i tried to play an.avi file today on my ini and quicktime was running,but there was no visual, only sound......what do i need to do?

You don't have the required video codec to play the file.

Don't worry, your mini is fine. ;)

You can upgrade to Quicktime Pro and purchase the codecs, or you can use other free movie playing software.

I recommend:

VLC (VideoLan Client) [http://www.videolan.org/vlc/]

MPlayer OS X [http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/]

That should solve all your mpeg4 playing needs. :)

Edit - Actually I don't think you need Pro to install other codecs and some codecs are free… I was thinking of the MPEG-2 playback that Apple sells, and even pro is not needed for that.

If you download the codecs just place them into ~/Library/Quicktime

and there i was thinking Apple had just released a new QuickTime Mini software :P

btw, i didn't know u could purchase more codecs in Pro? really?

It's broken. You've damaged it completely. You can never play an .avi again. Go and sit in the corner and think about what you did.
