Great for those with a D40, D60 and DX DSLRs. Hopefully this is a prelude to more large aperture FX/DX primes. (24 1.4/1.8, 35 1.8/2, AFS 85 1.4 VR, 135 2.0 VR )

Price is $199 USD apparently.. No price info on Nikon Aus site tho. I'd like to see it for no more than $350, sub-$300 ideal street price.

Looking forward to this on my D90. Now they just need to hurry up and deliver me an AF-S 80-400mm f/4-5.6

hopefully they'll introduce a f/1.4 version that isn't a DX soon....!

This is soooo far from left field as far as I'm concerned!
Can only mean they will hit us with new FX lenses AFTER introducing new DX lenses to make the most of the market.
Only good thing for me is that this is a cheap lens.
I'm headed full frame now - as would a LOT of other photographers.
I don't intend to look back.
FX it is.
DX is now dead to me.
Anyone want a 12-24??

I'd still be looking @ around four figures Steffen - but I'm not totally current on their market price.
Offer??
It's clean - I'd have the box too I think - lens hood etc. Maybe I should make a sale thread and do it properly...

I wanted the 50mm 1.4D but now with the price increases its up to 700-something!!! This lens looks decent and at a 'reasonably' affordable price... :)

W9Cae,

was all the shots shot wide open?
Maybe its the small picture, but it does seem abit soft.

Well, have fun with the new lense.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS) just kicked in real bad on my side.

Could anyone explain the difference between these two apart from the aperture and autofocus motor.

I imagine the top one is a DX specific lens but the latter doesn't seem to specifically be a FX lens. What are the real world advantages?

the latter is not a specific FX lens.

the main difference is if you use a full frame Nikon DSLR (ie D3 or D700) - the DX lens will 'force' the camera to shoot in a lower MP size.

also I think some of the newer Nikons (D40 & D60) won't be able to autofocus with the 35mm f/2D.

i have the f/2D version and it's the lens that seems to be on my D300 more than any of my others. with Nikon would release a non-DX f/1.2 :)

The 35 F2 which has an aperture ring which allows you to use it with older Nikon film cameras unlike the newer G lens. I also can't wait for Nikon to come out with a fast 35mm/28mm/24mm FX with similar quality to the 50mm AFS.

Thanks guys.

I Can't afford to buy a new lens right now but I'm trying to decide between another prime or an all rounder. I've currently got a 50mm 1.8. I sold an 18-55mm with my old camera so I don't have a zoom. But, when I had the 18-55 I always used the 50mm because of the big aperture.

Teds have a 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 on special for $400 which I'm thinking might be a better thing to grab before another prime. I just worry that I'll end up not using it because f3.5 is the biggest aperture. At this stage it'd probably be that, this 35mm or a 28mm prime.

Any thoughts?

damn, DCW's price of 359 is really really good. even better than Singapore prices!

I'm placing my order now.

W9cae, I blame you.

EDIT: Photo Continental has it for $360 and like DCW, its back ordered. DCW is late may arrival, no idea when PC can deliver. Will call tomorrow.

Got mine yesterday at JB for $350.
My first prime and loving it.

Definitely sharper and allot quicker than my 18-200VR, im using a D90 so the video mode seems better with a prime too.
