Hi all, im looking for suggestions on a decent all in one printer to use with my imac. A few posts down i have mentioned the problems im currently having with a HP all in one printer.

Im after a all in one for general use at home, and photo printing capabilities.

what are your specific purposes?

would you prefer laser? (which would be better for normal office printing, but ink can give better image print results).

do you need colour? do you need double siding? do you need A3? does it need Fax capabilities?

lots of different things to think about.

how much are you looking at spending? 300? 500? 1000?

A big factor apart from needs is the volume of printing you do. Ink Jet printing is expensive! In my case my needs are;

Colour - rarely
Fax - rarely use but very important on occasions
Scan - use everyday
Copying - sometimes

I do quite a lot of printing as I work from home - so printer is for home & office use. I use multi function ink jet Canon MP830 - this seems to work just fine with my iMac - but I also use black & white Brother Laser HL5250 & this does 97% of all printing because I would otherwise go broke paying $25 a drop for individual ink cartridges.

It is a little while since I have done research on this topic - but day is obviously coming closer when I will be able to get color laser with scanner fax etc at reasonable capital & operating cost.

By the way there may be other brands that offer two year warranty - but Brother seem to offer this on their products whereas Canon warranty seems to be usually one year. This extra year is quite significant because whatever the brand you can have gremlins in the works.

I just had a quick look at Officeworks website, there is a Samsung Multifunction colour laser for $544. (Print/Copy/Scan/Fax). thats not too bad.

As the above said - whats your volume?
