I'm not even sure I am asking in the right place.
So mods.. feel free to move it...

but the question

I am trying to use automator to resize images for posting things on the net... (eg here0

but it looks like I will need some applescript to help actually resize the image.

there is also a varible some forums allow images over 100kb so basically I want to be prompted for the file size.

if anybody has a solution.. I would be very grateful (at the moment I am just doing it manually.. I am trying to simplfy the process.)

automater can do it all except maybe the size bit.

Yeah, the size bit is really not that straightforward - I don't think it's easy to know what the file size is going to be until the image has been resized, though I'm sure it could be approximately predicted.

There are some scripts on apple.com for this but all links are leading to the Tiger page right now. There's a mirror which has the content though. Try this page (http://www.appleclub.com.hk/applescript/toolbar/) for some Finder toolbar scripts, or this one (http://www.appleclub.com.hk/applescript/image_capture/) for a couple of Image Capture Scripting examples. I'm sure there was more on the Apple site...

Graphic Converter is scriptable and could be used for the whole thing. I do a lot of scripting generally but actually use an ImageReady droplet for this task - just seems like the best way overall to get an optimised image.
