For a while now, I have been noticing these strange icons in my network section within finder. At home there is our Airport Extreme and my husbands MBP in addition to my MB.

What are these other icons

At the time my airport was being a shit, so i understand that icon, but what is the other one?

I think he means the extra network users, are you on a unsecured wifi maybe?

So your concerned with this extra machine/device being displayed and have no idea what it is? If so, then I think it might be afp or samba sharing being published with a different hostname.

Does the 2 machines you have currently have afp and smb enabled in networking sharing? If so, disable it. Then confirm the mystery host disappears, do 1 machine at a time, so you know which one it was.

If it disappears, then you know what machine it was and what service was causing it. Then re-enable them back again on both machines. It should now not produce this funny named host with them re-enabled/re-started.
