View Full Version : Safari (3.2.1?) and authenticating proxies

Anyone using Safari 3.2.1 through an authenticating proxy?

Since I updated last week Safari has essentially been ignoring HTTP 407 (authentication required) responses from my proxy (Squid 2.6.5-6etch4 on a Debian box). It simply immediately re-requests the URL.

e.g. imagine a million (I'm not kidding) of these in your access log:

1230100255.243 1 10.84.42.109 TCP_DENIED/407 1744 GET http://mactalk.com.au/ - NONE/- text/html

Have already lodged a bug report, but it'd be nice to have a workaround other than "switch to Firefox".

If it "works for you" - what setup do you have?

(I've ranted on this before but what the heck: web proxies seem to be a very foreign concept with Apple - of the many bugs I've encountered on OS X, proxy-related issues would probably and surprisingly be #1. (surprising as they're so common in commercial and educational environments))

Yeah, I've had problems in the past with several Apple apps and an authenticated proxy at work.

I'm not familiar with the setup but I've not had problems with Safari 3.2.1. Perhaps vecsty can shed some light on our setup. :)
