View Full Version : How to type fractions?

One of the things which endeared me to Macs from the outset was the ease with with accented characters and all sorts of common symbols are easy to produce in the course of ordinary typing. None of this ALT+0224 rubbish which may or may not still be the case on Windows.

Recently though, particularly in email, I've really wanted to type some simple fractions. Just things like, it took one and a half hours without writing that all out in words or typing 1.5hrs.

How the hell do you type fractions easily. I know in Word and whatnot you can go looking for special symbols, but surely there must be simple keystrokes, as with accents, which give you fractions.

Any ideas, Collective Brain?

⅓ ⅔

Opening character palette and then clicking "Digits" lets you double click a specific one and insert it into whichever text space you're using.

I'm not sure of any keyboard combos though.
