Im sick of restoring the bloody thing! I've had so many problems from day one! And I will leave Optus out of this, that's another story all together. Im restoring it now for the 3rd time in the last week! From having the firmware corrupt when updating, to having random errors. The iPhone's latest problem is when I turn it on, it says connect to itunes. A restart generally fixes the thing, but it does come back. When you plug it in, it says something about:
"The iPhone "" cannot be used with iTunes because the information required for activation could not be obtained from the iPhone."
I must admit im starting to get sick of it. Now im finding my battery length is starting to go crap on me. It's only a few months old!! Im a light user and im starting to have to charge it twice a bloody day!!
But I do love the thing:D

This isn't normal behaviour - if you're near an Apple Retail Store, then make an appointment with a Genius and see what they can do for you.

Otherwise, call Apple on 133-622 (although I think the technical line is now 1300-321-456).

Let us know how you go.
Ricky.

Are you using the latest firmware (2.2) ?

gahh...i so don't want to see apple. I realy couldn't be bothered. The phones not in my name so i'd need to drag my dad in with me and blah blah blah. Ill hang on to it for a few more weeks and see how it goes.
Whilst I do love apple, I also required my iPod touch being replaced. The only good iPod so far has been my trusty shuffle, which is more then one and a half years old and still going strong as ever.
Thanks for the tip.
EDIT: Yeap, am using 2.2.

Have a look at these (especially the Apple link - the 1st one), they may help: :)

iTunes is unable to activate your iPhone because of an issue reading the SIM card (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2455)

Major iPhone issues, HELP (http://www.modmyi.com/forums/unlocking-activation/257821-major-iphone-issues-help.html)

iPhone 3G will not restore - "The iPhone cannot be used with iTunes because the information required for activation could not be obtained from the iPhone. Check that the SIM card is inserted in your iPhone and that it is not PIN-locked." I did, and I (http://friendfeed.com/e/4a55a328-bf5d-4041-b8b2-eefd849ef1ad/iPhone-3G-will-not-restore-The-iPhone-cannot-be/)

Thanks for the links. My phone is not displaying the IMEI, so I have done a "hard restore" or whatever you call it(Where you hold the home button and plug in the phone). I will see how this goes, as I have not done it this way before.

You've got to give them a chance of fixing the issue. Sometimes one encounters problems one cannot fix without help...

Cheers

I find it interesting that you are complaining about the time it takes and the inconvenience of having to restore it constantly, but are not willing to spend 3 hours of your day (and perhaps your dad's) to fix the problem all together. It's not making sense to me...

That may have come across wrong. I really do want to get to the end of the problem, but would like to try all things possible to see if it can be fixed without going to Apple.

Fair enuf - it just seems the quickest and easiest solution would be to go to Apple. :)

Never had to restore mine.

Drop in at the Genius Bar and the good folks at Apple will help you out.

i concur. go to the apple store (the real ones, not the resellers). The process will be very painless. THen you can stop moaning about it. ;-) Trust me, they have truly fantastic service.
