How much does the graphics card come in when you are using the apps in the Final Cut Studio, specifically:
- Final Cut Pro 6
- Motion 3
- Compressor 3

Hence, would getting the 2.53Ghz Macbook Pro over the 2.4GHz MBP (both with 4GB RAM) make much of a difference? what about the new 2.4GHz vs the highest specced 15" of the previous gen MBP?

Motion will be the programme that benefits most from a better graphics card. Final Cut and compressor less so.
Check FCP specs here. (http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/)
You'll experience little real world benefit with the processor upgrades but it would be measurable.
If you'd rather save dollars over time then save the money.

BTW I use mainly FCP on a G5 and the latest Mac Pro.
In FCP itself I couldn't give a hoot which computer it's on!

Yeah, Final Cut Pro is very resource-light, especially when just doing cuts with some simple transitions. Motion is where you might see benefits, but that comes down to how big the jobs are you do in it. I found Motion 3 wasn't *too* painful on a dual G4 with a 128Mb Radeon 9800 Pro, but I was still only doing Standard Def stuff, and it was all pretty simplistic too.
