so i have an iphone 3g hacked on an t mobile nework useing 2.1 and it was working perfectly. Then i come home and hooked it up to itunes and stupidly tryed to install 2.2( its not my falut im british!!!)ha ha ha . so anyway once it installed it did not work any more! so then i re hacked it useing pwnage tool and sucsessfully installed 2.2 but the major problem with doing this was there was no reception on my tmobile network. so thinking with my common sence i completly restored it back to the apple settings thinking that i can install 2.1 and every thing will be ok but that is not the case as now my i phone G3 will not even re hack again when i use pwnage tool. Also i took it into a pro phone store they laught at meand said "NOT YOU ASWELL" and said my phone is 'cuput' untill they wright new software.is this true?

if anyone has any clue on what i can do now with my useless iphone g3 i will be internally greatfull and forever in your dept.

kind regards in advance

I kinda can't make much sense of this,
If the phone is locked to t-mobile, it shouldn't make any difference.

Yes, as yu have found out, you can't roll back like that, 2.2 had a baseband update (baseband is the chip that does the 'cellphone' communications).

Who is the phone locked to?

Hi Tim,

Yes, until there is a hack, you are locked into your current situation.

The issue goes like this:

When you upgrade software, it also upgrades the baseband. The hack is lost. Then when you try and downgrade, iTunes finds the baseband is a later version than the one you installed. It will not allow it to complete the upgrade as this is not allowed. (This is Apple's protection against this type of thing)

Until there is a successful 2.2 unlock, you're stuck.

T-Mobile doesn't sell the iPhone. It was unlocked to work on T-Mobile obviously by his use of the word "hack".

Evidently this gentelman doesn't understand what an iPhone unlock involves, which is kind of understandable.

A long time, the 2.1 baseband has been broken in to, but the 2.2 baseband is a long way off.

Tough luck I guess.

There's an iPhone G3 now? I must be living under a rock.

How was your 3G "hacked" to run on T-mobile? I wasn't aware of any methods that currently unlock 3G iPhones (such as the Pwnage Tool). Do you have one of those piggyback SIM cards or something like that?
