I only ask because there are a lot of MacTalk members counting on that Christmas BJ to get them through the loneliest time of the year.

MacRumors tells us about the 4GB iPhone for US$99 BoyGenius scoop WalMart materials (http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/12/04/apple-to-sell-a-99-4gb-iphone-at-walmart/).

If Apple did that, it would seriously cut them a shite load of general mobile phone market share!

Bring it on Stevo!!

WTF? Maybe I'm getting old and don't understand all this LOL speak etc, but in my day a BJ was something that you wanted off Elle MacPherson, not Santa.

As for iPhone Nano being the 4GB one, I don't think so. Although I want one for my collection.
I think it is just Apples response to trying to dominate the market. $99 is a very key price point and psychological barrier. I think a lot of parents will purchase these for their kids.

If it's true then maybe it's Apple's response to Android. Although with Apple not being afraid to charge a premium who knows.

US$99 would be an interesting price as, for the 8GB model, Apple would be pressured to justify the US$100 for the additional 4GB (or drop prices )

Nice photoshopping at the bottom of the walmart logo, it goes over the bottom of the iPhone screen.

Honestly though, I don't think its going to happen.

That would most likely be Mrs. Claus. Never heard of female santa before. In the context of this thread, what did BJ mean?

an 'iphone nano' would perhaps be more in line with the ipod nano in terms of form factor.

replace the clickwheel with a keypad, lose the wifi, basically just make a ipod nano that makes calls.

and sell it outright unlocked.

OR

apple should just set up their own mobile company

I don't think so. As mentioned on Buzz Out Loud, a $99 phone doesn't mean crap when your monthly bill is still over $90AUD a month. Seriously, people don't seem to realise, in the US the iPhone monthly bill is INCREDIBLY expensive.

I like the idea of it being slimmer

It would be a good move for apple, and i think iPhones may go up in popularity, seeing more people buying/using them.

Thanks to Mac OS Ken (http://macosken.com), a legitimate newspaper (http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_11168218?nclick_check=1&forced=true) has a quote from a Wal Mart employee about when iPhone will be available in-store.

Didn't confirm the 4GB iPhone, but so far, it's panning out.

And I'm about all Santa'd out now, thanks all the same...

Dude. There is no $99 iPhone 4GB.

Walmart will sell regular iPhones for $2 less.

4gb iPhone has already been debunked. It's going to be sold at $2 less than the AT&T store, and will be the same 8GB we know and love.

So what you're saying is that MacRumors "confirmed" the first half of the rumour, days after the San Jose Mercury News report confirmed it.

And out of nowhere they have information from an AT&T source, which has never provided information on models being released before (only information about AT&T network issues, which is an entirely different part of the company).

Not blowing my skirt up, at all.

That the first half of the rumour was confirmed, in the face of criticism like the Mac Rumors sources, lends credibility to the $99 iPhone report.

You'll notice that Australian stores are selling 4 GB Nanos now - that were not part of the original release, then they were 'on limited sale' in Europe.. and now on general sale in Australia, too.

The pattern is the same. A US$99 iPhone is quite possible.

iPhone is already the biggest selling phone in the US, with no qualifications like 'smart phone' or whatever. A cheaper 4 GB model would be Apple going in for the kill. I can't see it happening just after Christmas, but maybe after MacWorld...??

I'm getting howled down, here, for trying to save his arse (not literally, more like the other end).

Somebody better get him a supply of chap stix for Christmas or it's not going to be a very happy Christmas for ol' Santa, is it?
