View Full Version : Where does that optical drive bracket belong in my Ibook G4???

Hi guys, recently bought an iBook g4 off gumtree, and have pulled out a defective Combo Drive, to replace with a Superdrive. Opening the iBook was not easy, and the stories about the obscene amount of screws involved are all true :(

After removing the Combo Drive I realised that it still had a bracket attached, which I quickly removed and kept aside to attach to my superdrive when it arrived in the mail.

After about a week and a half, Superdrive arrived yesterday, and when I went to put it in and reassemble the iBook. Only... I have forgotten exactly how it was mounted onto the drive, and how it is supposed to sit inside the laptop.

Google image-searched a lot, but couldn't find a good pic, or description of how and where it is supposed to sit.

Does anyone have a picture or description that could help me out? I could reassemble without it, and I'm sure that it would run ok, but just to be sure I'd rather not. I never want to have to open this thing AGAIN.

While I'm at it, the replacement drive is a 2006 model, and the iBook is 2004. Does anyone foresee any compatability issues? The ribbon and connector fit perfectly, but don't want to power it up for a test run until I'm closer to reassembly.

Thanks.

You are a lifesaver!!!!!!

Found exactly what i was looking for, following that link! Still not exactly sure of the purpose of the bracket, but at least now it can go back where it belongs!!!

For future reference, if anyone is ever having the same problem, the exact link you are looking for is here:

Thanks again, Mulquemi that was brilliant!
