Calling all you tiger early adopters...

I had this idea for automator that I could create a workflow that would:

1. print a webpage in safari (or camino), and also

2. generate a pdf version stored in my documents folder for future reference.

I am not sure that this is possible without having to save the webpage separately first.

Does anyone have any idea how this might be done?

If you create a folder, and call it “saved PDFs” (for example), you can create an alias of this empty folder to put in the ~Library/PDF Services/ folder.

Then you can create a little AppleScript by copying the text below:

on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving these_items
tell application "Finder"
print these_items
end tell
end adding folder items to

This script can be saved in “Library:Scripts:Folder Action Scripts”.

Right click on the “saved PDFs” folder to attach this new AppleScript to the folder.

Now, if you come across anything you want to print and keep a copy of, activate the File:Print command, and in the Print Dialog box, select “Saved PDFs” from the bottom left PDF menu (see picture).

This will save a PDF to the “saved PDFs”, and will automatically launch Preview/Adobe Reader to print that PDF.

Automator "actions" are just Applescripts with little info files, much like StartupItems items are usually shell scripts with info files containing what message should appear as the machine is booting up.
