I would just like to share this: VisualHub, the popular video converter on Mac OS X has now gone open source. It also has got a new name, Film Redux.
As you may or may not know, the developer, Techspanion has closed shop and after an outcry from fans, it has released the source code.
Unfortunately, Film Redux is very rudimentary at this stage but it looks promising and it should be an app that should be follwed, especially by fans of VisualHub.
You can get it here: SourceForge.net Repository - [transcoderredux] Index of / (http://transcoderredux.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/transcoderredux/)
Update: For those who haven't worked it out, PunyVid is the iSquint successor.
Still got no word on AudialHub yet. :(

The link doesn't show any other app then Film Redux (VisualHub) and PunyVid (iSquint). Maybe it's because Techspanion haven't released the code for AudialHub yet?

Yes, it is free to use.

I hope someone takes it and runs with it instead of just leaving it to rot in Open Source repositories.

You have to download the source and compile it yourself at the moment. Well at least that's what it looks like to me.

I find a tutorial on how to bulid iSquint and VisualHub? (http://www.iskysoft.com/article/how-to-build-isquint-and-visualhub.html#121)

followed the tutorial but it doesnt compile properly, i get this error on xcode -

this is what the apple script it refers to says -

http://img.skitch.com/20081112-86dpkc1wj81waxdfq1s7u2ychq.jpg

when i try and drag and drop any file into film redux it just flashes but the file doesnt stay in the pane so there is nothing to convert.

ideas anyone?

If you search on channel BT, you can still find VisualHub and serials. Since it's not commercially available anymore, I'd say that's an ethically justifiable way of getting hold of a copy. Of course there's no support, but it's a start if you're not confident with doing the compiling etc.

i actually have hacked copies of visual hub, i was just bored and playing around with the open source version and when i ran into this problem i found a few others have also had the same problem so i posted so the coders here can help!

Hi Galumay,

I posted the same issue in this thread: http://forums.mactalk.com.au/13/61510-has-anyone-got-update-visual-hub.html

Any ideas?
