View Full Version : Why is my ThumbDrive partitioned?

I just recently got myself a 512MB ThumbDrive (the brand is just called Pen Drive) and when I put it into my iBook (USB 1.1 - running OS X 10.3.3), it came up as 2 disks. The first being a 474.5MB drive and the second being 1.4MB.

I went straight into Disk Utility and formatted the drive using HFS+, but the same thing happens. It doesn't actually appear to be 1 disk with 2 partitions, but 2 actual separate disks.

For interest sake, I connected to drive to a WinXP machine and formatted it using FAT32. This made it one whole drive that was about 474MB in size. But when I put it back to my Mac, it came up as two drives again.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Id assume taht the 1.4mb would hold the drivers for the drive..or something similar.
