I have recently purchased a i-mac G5. This is my first Apple purchase and i love the computer so far. However i am having troubles with the DVD player locking the region every time i change the disks from region 1 to 4. I only have a few more chances left to change before it will lock for good!

My question is how do i get around this problem???

Can somebody please help me???

There are a few things to get around this from what I understand. Someone else can probably tell you more...

Personally I would just use the free media player that plays just about everything VLC

head over to www.versiontracker.com and search for VLC.

An interesting note, anything that is Region 2 (UK) will play in Region 4 (Aus) players. Because UK and Aus are PAL, we are captable to both. Why we don't just have one region I'll never know.

Good luck ;)

If your collection of DVD's is mainly Oz ones.. aka region 4. Be sure the last disk/change you make is a Region 4. Otherwise your DVD drive won't play non region 4 disks unless you use VLC.

You could get a hacked firmware for your drive, but I'd advise against this cause it can go wrong and if it does go wrong due to you not doing it correctly or not getting the right firmware will render the drive useless.

VLC can be had from http://www.videolan.org (http://www.videolan.org/)
