I keep getting told that it is now possible to buy an unlocked iphone from Australian telcos, however, when I make a call I get a run around. Has anyone actually purchased an unlocked iphone and how did they go about it ?

Thanks.

Optus is the best I think. But apparently they have stopped it.

I believe it is. $729 for the 8GB model outright, and $849 for the 16GB

You then have to purchase a starter kit from optus I think its $80 then another $80 to unlock.

It takes around 10 or so days for the unlock to come through. But after that there fine. Best way for an outright.

As long as you spend $80 with optus its free unlocking. Either way $80

How did you go Ozzitraveller, did you get one in the end? I'm wondering the same thing as I want one unlocked so I can use my current providers sim card.
