View Full Version : Vaja classic Retro Slim Bag iPhone 3G Case - Review

After having read many many reports about how fantastic Vaja leather cases were for a variety of purposes, I decided to bite the bullet and shell out some hefty dollars (compared to a normal case) for one of their oh-so-nice cases. As I'm not a fan of big chunky cases, I opted for the classic Retro Slim Bag in Azzurro Blue with a Latté
stripe.

The case was ordered July 22 with a prompt confirmation email to follow. There was a slight formatting issue with the name/address due to where it was being delivered, but within 24 hours of contacting Vaja by email this was cleared up and the address corrected. Full marks for excellent communication and customer service.

The only shipping option provided to us Australians was via FedEx. Whilst pricey, personally I was happy they chose this option as I'm not a fan of having expensive items go missing. Peace of mind is a big thing and the tracking number let me see the world wide trip my case took to get to me :)

It arrived in a standard FedEx padded satchel on my desk around 9:15 August 6th. Not lightning delivery, but considering their big boast is every item is hand made to order, not too bad either. Their cases are made in Argentina, so FedEx shipped this on July 31st and it took 6 days to get to me. Pretty prompt over all.

The case came in a big box, considering the case size. It's obvious you're paying for a brand and reputation. The box is overkill to say the least. Complete with full-gloss postcard type advertising for their other products, it included nothing but this and the case.

The quality of the manufacture is nothing short of excellent. The stitching is first class. The sealant they use to seal the edges of the case together (to prevent fraying and splitting from the lining) is flawless. It's matching in colour to the Azzurro blue and has no rough bits or leakage onto the leather (see pictures).

The lining is a soft suede material in the same colour as the outside strip (latté).

When the phone is in the case, it's a snug fit. Not tight, not loose. Your phone is not going to fall out but at the same time it's easy to grasp the top sides and slide the phone out with an expected amount of force. The soft lining prevents any scratching during this action.

Overall, The case is brilliantly made, although I'm not a big fan of the type of leather used. It seems like the colour strip on the outside will crack and split. That's not a flaw, more so the type of leather used which is a high quality leather.

I would definitely recommend it to people who are after something slim that will let you protect your phone, but let you use it without a clunky case to go around it that just collects dust between it and the phone.

I opted for no screen protector. The phone screen being glass is more than enough to detract from scratches. My first gen iPhone has one tiny scratch on the glass from it taking a very hard fall onto very rough bitchumen. As a result, I'm keeping my phone 'a la naturale' and using the case for protection :)

Case can be bought from - Vaja Choice - (http://www.vajachoice.com)

Prices varies depending on options selected. Case as shown was $51 USD plus shipping.

Pictures of the box and case follow. Apologies for the quality, was just done with the iPhone.

Good write up and sounds like great service.

But what a waste of paper shipping something that small in such a big box, just a bit of over kill if you ask me.

Mine came on the 5th Aug, ordered the following
Color-scheme:
Body: Vitelino Jean
Stripe: Vitelino Latte

Very nice case indeed, just one tiny problem, it's kinda hard to get out.
I guess this is due to the leather still being very new, I'm sure this will be better after a period of use.

Agreed. I was actually expecting it to be as 'wanky' as it really was. Their whole site is clearly aimed at people who want 'the best' (ie full of wanky flash). I just wanted the best case I could get as my phones usually take a pounding:)

Not identical though. Just as well, the world can only cope with one of me ;)

Not sure which one you got (the more expensive or cheaper leather) but mine is just right. I hope it doesn't stretch too much or it will end up just falling out in time. I'll see how I go!

I received mine yesterday and very happy with it! It is a dark chocolate with the cream/latte stripe.

It was pretty hard to get my phone out of the case at first but has started to loosen up a bit, which is a good thing.

Packaging was a bit overkill, but I guess they want you to feel you are paying for a premium product.

Probably not worth the AUD$85 I ended up paying for it, but nonetheless the quality is fantastic.

They charged me heaps for the shipping via Fedex. It came to just over $80.

I initially had a fabric sock case but lost it and got one of the plastic wrap-around cases and a screen protector which really am not liking and just ordered one of these in black with the 'arangino' stripe. Hadn't heard of them before your review - love the look of them. I work in a corporate environment (i.e. wear a suit and lots of client meetings) so something 'classy' looking like this is perfect yet still a bit funky looking for after-hours.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread - but how do you find the fact this has no speaker hole etc? If you have the phone in it upright so you can listen to music etc is the ringer significantly muffled?

i bought one last week off ebay, all up $30. it is too tight to use, i had a Sena pouch before this one, and it fitted better. not happy at all although it looks better than Sena :(

Sheesh, the flash on their website is rather annoying.

Anyone else pick up the irony of a company that sells iphone cases using flash on their website?
