Would love to find one that

a) wakes me to the soothing sound of my own music
b) does NOT have a bright display that keeps me awake, prefferably an ol skool LCD display
c) charges the phone
d) I'll let you know if I can think of a D...

would love some advice / rants / reviews / hate-mail
ta :)

What's wrong with just sitting it next to your bed with the USB cable charging it from the mains?

If you wanna see the time, just reach out and press the home button and presto...

Isn't this in the wrong forum anyway???!!!!

I have an XtemeMac Luna - Luna X2: Fully customizable iPod alarm clock and so much more (http://www.xtrememac.com/audio/speakers/luna_x2/index.php)

Alarm can be iPod music - thats a
display can be dimmed/off - thats b
charges ipod/iphone - thats c

I have the older model not the new x2 (sexier) one ;)

EDIT: but if you use any alarm clock with the iphone, won't you always hear the cell repeater sound? (duk duck da duck duck duck duck)

I also am thinking of buying a good alarm / clock radio / speaker for my iPhone 3G!

Seems al ot of the current products aren't compatible with the iPhone 3G!!!

I bought a radio clock alarm with a dock that accepted the Apple inserts for $29 from a woolworth's owned bargain store for my mother. The sound was not too bad.

Probably not what you are looking for, but should you feel a cheap option should suffice, it or similar might be worth looking for.

I would also like to know that as well, before forking out $300 - $400 for an Alarm Clock!

I have this that I use for my iPod:

AJ301D/79 - Docking Entertainment System - Audio systems - Audio products - Philips (http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/en/au/consumer/cc/_language_au/_productid_AJ301D_79_AU_CONSUMER) <- White

Not sure if they've updated it to work for the iPhone. I plugged my iPhone in and it plays music etc, but doesn't charge because it isn't supported.

The fact the iphone won't charge with existing docks is, forgive me, pure bastardry on Apple's part. There is no reason why it shouldn't charge with an existing dock. I can picture a Kim Gyngell like character sitting in Cupertino leaning back in his chair and saying "Now that's what I call a real bastard".

My Homedics Clock Radio dock is the same... music plays beautifully but if I want to charge it I need to do it separately.

plus,

" I still occasionally hear the interference when my phone is near the unit or connected to it. It's no longer the "bleep-beep-beep," rather it's more static-like noise, but still very loud. "

One unit that seems to charge the iphone properly and get rid of the static.. that I've managed to find any confirmation of... is the Sony ICFC1iPMK2BLK

as confirmed here :
I need a good iPhone 3g alarm clock, 100$ budget - Mac Forums (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=532028)

"You should read the related discussion on ilounge. Because of 2100Mhz, Many speakers/clock radios with Iphone certification, DO NOT, in fact work with Iphone 3G. I went to my local Frys and tried my Iphone 3G with every speakers they had.
The only one that actually worked, and no message "does not work with this accessory, entering airplane mode" is Sony FM/AM Clock Radio ICF-C1iPMK2. It costs $99 and a little cheaper on amazon. It actually works with Iphone 3g. No pop-up messages, charges your Iphone 3G and remote control works. That's it. The new JBL will charge your phone but you will get the message. Altec 612 also has message popping up. So Sony is the only way to go as of TODAY."

http://news.sel.sony.com/images/medium/consumer/portable_audio/accessories/ICF-C1iPMK2_white_02_med.jpghttp://news.sel.sony.com/images/medium/consumer/portable_audio/accessories/ICF-C1iPMK2_black_02_med.jpg

It's currently $90.29US on Amazon, which is $96.91AUS
Amazon.com: Sony ICFC1iPMK2BLK Speaker Dock/Clock Radio for Universal iPod (iTouch & iPhone) Black: Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-ICFC1iPMK2BLK-Speaker-Universal-iTouch/dp/B00171MWU2/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1217730938&sr=8-1)

This review on Amazon is very encouraging also,
" Seeing as one of the reviewers posted for all the items (always frustrating since its misinformative), I'll enter a fair review on the MK2 version of this Sony clock.
As a previous owner of 2 of the original Sony iphone clock radios and a current owner of the identical looking upgraded versions, I can say that the original (and one thats on big sale on amazon) will have interference with your iphone. It will also tell you upon docking your iphone, that the iphone isnt compatible with teh device. So hello, wake up and realize that sony released a new shielded version (THIS version, teh ICFC1iPMK2) specifically for the iphone. When you dock your iphone on the right version, you dont get an incompatibility error.
You also get none of the GSM buzz found on the previous model.
As for sound, this isnt my klipsche sound dock, but it does a good job. I keep one wherever I may need time, music and ipod charging. As someone who lives next to their cell phone, I love that in the evening I have one less thing on the nightstand when charging my phone. Iphone's been handy charging in my 2 cars, both factory ipod capable too. I'm down with the Iphone :)
The clock is where this unit shines. If you've had a sony dreammachine clock since you were 4 years old, you will appreciate the dual alarms, easy to reach snoozes, easy to set clock and alarm selection. The sound is more than enough for a bed room, although thats only my opinion. If you want a full blown knock your socks off stereo, these shelf units arent going to cut it anyway.
So, this model... 100% Iphone safe. In fact, its the exact model previous except with shielded speakers and iphone recognized approval programmed in.
If you buy the cheaper, on-sale model, you'll know you have the wrong one the moment you dock and your iphone warns you! "

Anyone know if it is available here yet?
