I have Garage band on my old PowerBook and my new iMac. My husband uses it with his electric guitar but lately it won't work on either computer. The problem is that whenever he chooses a guitar track he gets feedback. It happens with the speakers, earphones even when no real guitar is plugged in. He can't turn it off so now Garageband is useless.

Has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it? I think that the reason it has happened on the new iMac is because we brought over all our old files from the old computer via firewire and maybe the problem came too.

It might have something to do with the iMac's built-in microphone.

If you choose your sound input (System Prefs>Sound>Input) to be Line In, rather than Internal Microphone, does that make any difference?

I only suggest this because it took me ages to work out why I was getting weird noises into my recordings when I used GarageBand, before I stumbled upon the sound settings and realised that the mic was picking noises up.
